Tourist Attractions in Khon Kaen

1.     Wat Nong Wang 

    Wat Nong Wang is the most famous temple in Khon Kaen. It is in the south of the city on Klang Muang Rd. This temple is an impressive building with its 9 floors showing the culture, tradition and history of the temple, Buddhism and monks. It is a very attractive place to visit since if you climb to the highest floor, you will be able to see the 360-degree view of Khon Kaen city.

 

 

 

2.     Hong Moon Mung Khonkaen City Museum 

             Inside the amphitheatre at Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake, this well-executed museum about Khon Kaen provides a good introduction to Isan, with dioramas and displays going back to the Jurassic period.

3.     King Cobra Village

      Ban Khok Sa-nga in the Sai Mun sub-district is well-known for petting exotic creatures, such as king cobras, which practically every household raises beneath their dwellings. There are also several acts to keep tourists entertained, such as a boxing match between a king cobra and a villager and a snake-dancing show. The performance will take place in front of the Si Thamma temple, and there will be an exhibition about king cobras in the surrounding area.

4.     Hin Chang Si

              The core attraction of Nam Phong National Park and the nearest nature reserve to Khon Kaen city, the Hin Chang Si ('Elephant-Rubbing Rock') area is full of oddly eroded house-sized rocks scattered around a scraggy forest. There are some wonderful viewpoints of Ubonrat Reservoir and the Phu Wiang Mountains. It's worth spending at least an hour roaming around, and you could do more if you follow the trail northeast along the top of the cliff (you're supposed to hire a ranger for this).

A small rock-climbing club (www.khonkaenclimbing.com) is active here and hosts a bouldering festival in January. It’s 50 km from the city.

 

  

 

5.     Bueng Thung Sang

      Bueng Thung Sang is a health garden located at Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Khon Kaen District. It is a large lake and public park full of a variety of flowers and trees. The surrounding is friendly and peaceful. Here suits for doing exercise and relaxing. Moreover, there are some lovely coffee shops around the lake that you could visit and have a drink while enjoying the lake’s scene.

 

 

 

6.     Columbo craft village

      It is a village for art lovers on Colombo Road near Khon Kaen University.  It was created from the dream of people who love art in Khon Kaen until becoming an artistic community space. There are cafés, restaurants, handmade shops, woodworking workshops, and artists’ studio works on fabrics which is also a place to relax and take cool photos. The best time to visit this place is in the afternoon or evening because it’s the restaurant's opening time which suits for chilling and relaxing. You can enjoy various kinds of food at reasonable prices such as steak, hamburgers, and sandwiches with live music. Columbo craft village is located behind Khon Kaen University, on the side of dormitory no.9, pass through the university gate, and turn left on the first alley

7.     Talat Ton Tan (Green Night Market)

      Talat Ton Tan is a new green night Market in Khon Kaen, where you can chill out, hang out, and go shopping after work. The market is located in a park full of shady trees, encompassing over 15 acres of land. A car park with a capacity of more than 1,500 parking spaces is also provided. The market is easily accessible via Mittraphap Road and Ban Kok Soi 8, 10, and 12. The market is built to be a centre of artworks, collections, and handicrafts and to serve as a meeting point for amateurs or those who share the same interest, be it a fairy tale club, a drama club, a photographer group, street performers, a dance club, a classical car club or a motorbike club.
